Out in public : Du'a, the finished piece |

Have you viewed any of the "Stories of Home" pieces, or participated in a related event? Do you have a story of your own to tell, or would you like to share your response to the project? Please visit the "Stories of Home" BLOG (web log) and let us know what you think. |
The title of this piece is Du'a, which in Arabic means "a prayer." Here is the completed piece installed at its first venue, Union Bank at 70th & Pioneers in Lincoln.
The first guests arrived as I still was installing Du'a. They readily embraced the interactive characteristics of the piece, including that they are invited to walk upon the map and follow Zainab's footprints.

Home at last: on March 8, 2007, Du'a was delivered to the Good Neighbor Community Center where Marvin Almy made a gift of the sculpture to Zainab Al-Baaj. Marvin Almy's work at the Lincoln Literacy Council has allowed him to collaborate with Zainab on many community projects over the years. He purchased the sculpture with the intention of giving it to Zainab and her family. Zainab will use the piece as part of her work as Coordinator of the MENA Hope Project at the Good Neighbor Community Center. Marvin, Zainab and Kate are joined by GNCC Executive Director Sheila Schlisner, whose support of Stories of Home allowed Zainab and Kate to work extensively together. Zainab's Stories of Home piece, Du'a, continues to be exhibited in conjunction with various cultural and educational programs. Please contact the artist or Zainab Al-Baaj if you would like to discuss exhibiting Du'a in an appropriate venue. |
